Hubbard, Elbert. The Journal of Koheleth, Being a Reprint of the Book of Ecclesiastes with an Essay by Elbert Hubbard. The Roycroft Printing Shop, 1896. One of 700 numbered copies, signed by Elbert Hubbard, this copy #5. (According to David Ogle's On a High Shelf, only two copies were advertised as bound in vellum.) Printed with decorative initials, rubricated borders, and ornaments throughout. Colophon states that the book was “done after the manner of the early Venetian” at the Roycroft Printing Shop and first offered May 2, 1896.

The Roycroft advertisement for the book notes that the same Romanesque types used for The Song of Songs were employed here, and that after printing the title page, colophon, and borders were to be destroyed.

Bound in full flexible vellum with cloth ties, front cover lettered in gilt, gray pastedowns. Measures 6.5" by 9.25". Vellum with some natural toning and mild soiling contents with scattered foxing and toning, heavier at front and rear of text; a few signatures showing at gutters. Slight bowing to front cover. Cloth ties worn but intact. Bookplate to verso of ffep.
