[Waldo Press] Rip Van Winkle

Irving, Washington. Rip Van Winkle. Cleveland: Waldo Press of Charles M. Hill, 1900. Limited to 150 copies, of which this is #70. Signed in black ink by Hill and dated "January 29, 1901" on limitation page. "With Illumined Initials Drawn in by Hand", done in various colors (presumably by Hill). Bound in 3/4 brown suede with coarse brown burlap boards; title stamped vertically on the front cover near spine. Measures approx. 6.25" x 9.25". 

Given the binding materials, this is typically a very fragile item. However, this example appears to have been housed in its slipcase for quite some time, and thus it has been beautifully preserved. A few minor spots to boards, a bit of rubbing to edges; offsetting to edges of pages from suede corners of bindings. Paper slipcase is worn at edges and corners. Small private library sticker to corner of lower rear pastedown.
