Hardy, W. J. Book-Plates. London, Kegan Paul, Trench, Trübner & Co., 1893. Large paper copy, limited to 150 copies printed on Dutch handmade paper, of which this is #72. Illustrated throughout with bookplate examples. Volume II in Pollard’s “Books About Books” series. A useful late 19th-century account of ex-libris design and collecting, with chapters on armorial, pictorial, allegorical, English, French, German and American bookplates, as well as inscriptions and collecting practices.

Bound in dark green morocco by The Monastery Hill Bindery (signed in gilt on the rear turn-in). Covers tooled in gilt with multiple concentric rectangular rules, repeated on both boards. Spine with five raised bands, title and author to second and third compartments, the remaining compartments with matching nested rectangular tooling. Wide gilt-ruled turn-ins with green watered silk doublures and endleaves, top edge gilt. 

Measures approx. 6" x 9.25". Spine slightly faded from green toward olive. A few minor spots of rubbing to edges and corners.
