Illustrated throughout with examples of early printing. Volume IV in Pollard’s “Books About Books” series. Duff’s first book, and an important early account of incunabula and the beginnings of printing, with chapters on block books, Gutenberg, the spread of printing, early English printing, Caxton, Wynkyn de Worde, early bookbinding, and the description and collecting of early printed books.

Bound in dark green morocco by The Monastery Hill Bindery (signed in gilt on the rear turn-in). Covers tooled in gilt with multiple concentric rectangular rules, repeated on both boards. Spine with five raised bands, title and author to second and third compartments, the remaining compartments with matching nested rectangular tooling. Wide gilt-ruled turn-ins with green watered silk doublures and endleaves, top edge gilt. 

Measures approx. 6" x 9.25". Spine slightly faded from green toward olive. A few minor spots of rubbing to edges and corners.
