A broad historical survey of book collecting and famous libraries, from monastic and Renaissance collectors through Grolier, De Thou, Peiresc, Bodley, Cotton, and other major figures in the history of private and institutional collecting.

Bound in dark green morocco by The Monastery Hill Bindery (signed in gilt on the rear turn-in). Covers tooled in gilt with multiple concentric rectangular rules, repeated on both boards. Spine with five raised bands, title and author to second and third compartments, the remaining compartments with matching nested rectangular tooling. Wide gilt-ruled turn-ins with green watered silk doublures and endleaves, top edge gilt.

Measures approx. 6" x 9.25". Spine slightly faded from green toward olive. A few minor spots of rubbing to edges and corners. Light horizontal scratch (1.5") to rear cover.
