Illustrated with thirty tissue-guarded photogravures of John Raphael Smith works. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eBound by Morrell in full brown and green morocco (originally green) with a strong art nouveau design, the upper cover ruled with multiple gilt fillets forming a wide rectangular frame and within, an elaborate symmetrical gilt-tooled foliate strapwork design: large sweeps of curling acanthus-like leaves and tendrils, their stems drawn out into long, fine scrolls that interlace towards the edges and center, leaving a small open lozenge at the center. Full brown morocco doublures, ruled in triple gilt fillets and at center a large open panel with the surrounding border compartments with repeated gilt corner-and-side ornaments: small roundels and floriated sprays (rosettes, palmettes, and dot work) placed symmetrically. Five bands to spine, title and author to second and third compartments, scrolling leaves and vines to remaining compartments. Gilt ruled turn-ins, endpapers of bright orange watered (moiré) silk, top edge gilt.
